Kyle Barker, AIA LEED AP — Principal Architect
Mr. Barker, a licensed architect, considers community involvement a very important trait in the design profession. His career has focused on civic and educational design in Vermont and New Hampshire. Kyle personally oversees all aspects of work at Barker Architects including programming, design, contract documents, and construction administration.
Experience
Kyle's twenty-two years of experience has focused almost exclusively on civic projects, particularly educational design. He has immersed himself in every aspect of school design to become an expert in the field. Through countless hours of research, Kyle learns about trends in educational design and applies these concepts to school projects in New Hampshire. He has used this knowledge to enhance the numerous studies and pre-bond designs that he has produced in the last eight years.
Kyle endeavors to bring aspects of socially responsible and sustainable practice to every project. He is a LEED accredited professional and works to promote "green" design. His designs feature white "cool" roofs, mass walls and demand ventilation to name a few.
A sampling of the major projects he has worked on includes:
- NH Department of Revenue, Concord, NH — 77,000 square foot five-story complete rehabilitation of a 1940's brick structure on the former NH Hospital grounds.
- Iber Holmes Gove Middle School, Raymond, NH — A two-story 105,000 square foot replacement of the existing middle school. Much of the new structure is within the footprint of the existing school, which was eventually demolished, yet not a day of school was lost due to disruption.
- The Carey House Homeless Shelter, Laconia, NH — Rehabilitation of an existing office building into a 30 bed homeless shelter.
